Portraits

Last weekend I gave my first steps on portraits. I thought it was easier  than just saying to the model to pose and smile a little, but it is much harder than that. And of the few hundred photos that you might take, only very few (I mean 10 or less) will be the ones that have all: good technical characteristics and a good composition. My boyfriend, Mario, seems to be more excelled than me in the kind of qualities that make a portrait a good one. I am yet learning how to do that with a professional camera, since all my life I have been dealing with a pint and shoot equipment.

The photo shoot I am talking about was with Mario as a photographer and a friend of ours (and her sister) as the models. At first I was hesitant to take the camera, since it was my boyfriend’s assignment and not mine, but then I thought that it could be a great learning experience for me. The place was a really nice and modern apartment just outside of Rotterdam, we ate an amazing lasagna and then cheesecake with wine. After laughing and having a fun conversation about trips and friends, my boyfriend started to prepare his camera for the session. I also prepared mine, not really knowing where to put myself to take pictures of Claudia and her sister Louise.

Anyways, we took advantage of the amazing light provided by the sunset, and I must say I was very proud of myself and the pictures I took of the two “models”. Both my boyfriend and, most importantly Claudia said that the pictures were beautiful. So, here they are!!!

    • What do you mean by “negative space”? I am very new in photography, that’s why I ask 🙂

      • a large part of your picture is obscured. That can be black, white or bokeh/unsharp background.

At least that is what I got as an answer after asking a similar question 😉

Have fun with photography, there’s so much to learn of course but never forget just to have fun.

      • Interesting… The things you learn with photography! And you are right, it is very important to have fun, so I will always keep that in mind 😀
